Deep seams, cure for tight back

I think I've figured out how to keep back spasms from ruining a writing streak: squatting. I've tried lots of different stretches that only seemed to worsen the problem, but this is different. Fast relief without hot pads, epsom salt baths or massage. Finally! As a plus, it strengthens my legs. It doesn't matter if you're washing your floor, cleaning the shower floor, gardening or just hunkering down just because; it all works.

Spent half the day fixing my eldest's Christmas quilt top. Mom made a lovely log cabin quilt with the Northern lights, sunset, bears, trees and cabins...and I had to wash it. Of course the darn top shredded in places, so I did my penance in hundreds of tiny stitches that took half the day to do. The quilt looks great and I have an idea of where to take my plot.

And we will never, ever tell my Mom.

If you're making a quilt today, please, use deep seems. Favorite blankets see lots of action, and the washing machine should not be the enemy.

  1. I love quilting and my son seems to be the roughest on his :). Hope the back spasms ease up and also love your unique books.

  2. Deep seams on quilts are definitely a must. I learned that hard lesson when I used cotton and satin in the same quilt.

Along with the myriad of stretches, did you ever try the plank pose? It strengthens core muscles and helps support your back. You can move it straight into cobra to stretch when it's done and then child's pose to relax.

  3. Hm, maybe I should bone up on Yoga. Back is great now and look forward to getting back to work.

    Quilts are wonderful things.
